Track and Field's Greatest Stars Place Their Marks for World Titles
David Oliver With twelve months to visit before London hosts the following Olympic games, the earth's best runners, throwers and jumpers have incorporated on Daegu, Columbia, for that ultimate dress testing, the IAAF World Track & Area Titles. Beginning Saturday (Friday evening within the U.S.) and running through Sunday, Sept. 4, sports athletes will face off for global game titles - and also the favorites' status heading for the 2012 Summer time Games. NBC/Universal Sports analyst Ato Boldon is predicting "a global championship of debate and intrigue," given some dynamic sports athletes (including double-amputee Oscar Pistorius of Nigeria, who operates on prosthetic carbon-fiber rotor blades and it has qualified for that 400-meter dash) and also the tricky new false-start rule that shows no whim to anybody who jumps the gun. Extensive TV coverage (see schedule, below) means fans will see a lot of the experience. Listed here are three story lines sure get noticed in Daegu: &bull Will lightning strike again for Usain Bolt? The protecting champion within the 100- and 200-meter dashes (along with the 4x100 relay), Usain Bolt continues to be probably the most dominant runner in the world since storming to Olympic glory in 2008. But carrying out a loss last summer time and a number of lackluster victories this year, the lanky Jamaican might be vulnerable (a minimum of within the shorter race). "There is nothing Usain Bolt's 2011 season that will intimidate anybody that's prone to line facing him in the world titles," states Boldon, an Olympic medalist for Trinidad and Tobago and also the 1997 world champion within the 200. "He isn't beginning well, he isn't speeding up well, and the top speed appears to possess deserted him this season. This is the holy trinity of sprint problems." Bolt's job of protecting got just a little simpler Thursday when teammate and former world-record-holder Asafa Powell drawn from the talk with an injuries. Other challengers include Trinidad and Tobago's Richard Thompson and American Walter Dix, the silver and bronze medalists, correspondingly, in the 2008 Olympic games, and Jamaica's Nesta Carter. &bull Can Allyson Felix double lower in Daegu? Already the 3-time protecting champion within the 200-meters, American Allyson Felix is trying an unparalleled women's double this season, opting for gold within the 400 before seeking title No. 4 in her own niche. "The schedule is extremely suitable for her," Boldon states. The 400 final is Monday evening, August. 29, and also the 200 warms don't set off until Thursday morning, Sept. 1. "I believe for an individual [like Felix] that has good natural endurance, individuals 2 days can produce a large difference." Still, Boldon has concerns over her form - she has not been as dominant as this past year, when she rated No. 1 on the planet both in occasions. Within the 200 she'll face Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica, in addition to U.S. teammate Carmelita Jeter, one hundred-meter specialist who beat Felix inside a 200 recently. The 400 area includes protecting champion Sanya Richards-Ross, that has finally came back to top form after fighting injuries, and Botswana's Amantle Montsho, the African champion and champion of 4 straight Gemstone League races this summer time. &bull Who definitely are the king from the hurdles? Probably the most anticipated event from the titles may be the men's 110-meter hurdles, featuring the 3 quickest entertainers ever. Cuba's Dayron Robles may be the reigning Olympic champion and world-record holder (12.87 seconds) and it has looked sharp this summer time. The 2004 Olympic champion, Liu Xiang of China, includes a better of 12.88 and it is wanting to add another world championship towards the title he won in 2007. Three-time U.S. champion David Oliver won Olympic bronze in 2008, supports the American record (12.89) and was last year's No. 1 hurdler, but he's had an up and lower season this year, suffering deficits to Robles, Liu or more-and-coming teammate Jason Richardson. "David Oliver offers quite a bit to prove," Boldon states. He's already considered their equal when it comes to time, however in e-commerce you're judged in what your championship answers are.Inch Additionally to public coverage on NBC and Universal Sports, you will see survive-demand streaming video at UniversalSports.com, as well as for exceptional analysis, follow Boldon on Twitter @AtoBoldon. MGM Hires Scribe For 'War Games' Reboot
EXCLUSIVE: MGM has set Noah Oppenheim to write the script for War Games, the reboot of the 1983 thriller that has Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon attached to direct. Oppenheim, a former producer of TV news shows that include Hardball and Today Show, put himself on the map by scripting Jackie, a film about Jackie O which was set up with Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky attached to direct. At the time, it was envisioned he'd direct Rachel Weisz in the starring role, but that was before they split. The project is being produced by Aronofsky's Protozoa banner. Oppenheim also scripted Maze Runner for Fox and Houdini for Summit Entertainment. MGM made a deal with Gordon in June to direct the film. It's one of several major remake projects for the reconstituted MGM, which also has Jose Padilha to direct Robocop and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to script Carrie -- but the John Badham-directed War Games is one that seems particularly reboot-able. The original starred Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy as computer prodigies who finds a back door into a military computer program. They think they are playing games with the computer only to find they could trigger WWIII if the computer launches nuclear missiles at the Russians. In terms of computer games, kids were playing Pong back then; the level of sophistication with vidgames and the Internet in the digital age opens a wealth of possibilities, and Gordon will be given a wide berth to create a new take on the tale. The deal also reunites him with MGM toppers Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jon Glickman, who were at Spyglass when Gordon directed Four Christmases there. Oppenheim is repped by CAA and Management 360.
Ray Bradbury And Mike Medavoy Team For 'Dandelion Wine'
Mike Medavoy and Doug McKay, Vice-President of Production at Phoenix Pictures, have teamed up with legendary writer Ray Bradbury, RGI Productions Rodion Nahapetov (who is penning the screenplay), and producer Natasha Shliapnikoff to produce the feature film adaptation of Bradburys classic novel Dandelion Wine. Bradbury, who turns 91 on Monday remarked, This is the best birthday gift I could ask for. Today, I have been reborn! Dandelion Wine is my most deeply personal work and brings back memories of sheer joy as well as terror. This is the story of me as a young boy and the magic of an unforgettable summer which still holds a mystical power over me. Nahapetov stated, I was deeply honored when Ray Bradbury chose me to write the screenplay adaptation for his novel Dandelion Wine. When I began my studies at the Cinema Institute in Moscow, many foreign books were banned in Soviet Russia. Still, I decided to make my short film based upon Dandelion Wine because this novel represented to me the childhood I never had. My childhood had been stolen by the ravages and destruction of post World War II Russia and Dandelion Wine restored it back for me. Medavoy recently produced Martin Scorseses SHUTTER ISLAND and the acclaimed BLACK SWAN, which won numerous awards including an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actress Natalie Portman. Hes currently in production on the high-concept comedy What to Expect When Youre Expecting (Starring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez), which McKay is Co-Producing. Doug McKay was very instrumental in getting this project launched, said Bradbury. Ray Bradburys iconic writing (DANDELION WINE, MARTIAN CHRONICLES, FARENHEIT 451, among others), has won awards including: The World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, and most recently, The Commander of Arts and Letters Award from the French government. Bradbury has also received The National Medal of Arts (the highest award from the American government) and an Emmy for the animated version of his novel Halloween Tree. Ray Bradbury was also nominated for an Academy Award for his screenplay MOBY DICK.

Summer time of Giacomo (L'estate di Giacomo)
A Tucker Film (in Italia) discharge of a Faber Film, L'ensemble des Films Nus, L'ensemble des Films d'Ici production, in colaboration with Wallpaper Prods, Tucker Film. Created by Paolo Benzi, Valerianne Boue, Alessandro Comodin, Marie Gehin, Rejane Michel. Co-producers, Stephane Lehembre, Yov Moor, Kathleen p Bethune, Thomas Bertracche, Sabrina Baracetti. Directed, compiled by Alessandro Comodin. With: Giacomo Zulian, Stefania Comodin, Barbara Colombo. (Italian dialogue)As wispy and languid like a golden mid-day, frosh helmer Alessandro Comodin's "Summer time of Giacomo" is really a docu-fiction hybrid that hardcore auteurist auds will discover lovely, and many mainstream audiences more temperate. Following a titular hard of hearing teen along with a girlfriend because they walk-through a sun-dappled forest, splash around inside a awesome river and go to a circus as twilight takes hold, pic mainly drinks within the sights and sounds, using the only dramatic development -- and the potential of much deeper meanings -- hidden behind an abrupt, late-in-the-game twist. Locarno's Filmmaker from the Present competish prize should help extend the film's fest season. Good-searching Italo youngsters Giacomo (Giacomo Zulian) and Stefania (Stefania Comodin) enjoy each other peoples company because they walk-through a densely wooded area that's more similar to an Edenic jungle than the usual northern Italian woodland (the film was shot within the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, highlighting Slovenia). Both are looking for a location to gain access to the river to allow them to frolic in the water, and also have introduced along merely a small bag that contains two towels as well as their lunch. Dialogue between Stefania and also the mercurial, almost childlike Giacomo is about the light side, their conversations composed of short commentary on which they see or do, and also the nonsensical banter typical of people that know one another well. But despite their easy rapport and also the casual sensuality natural in playing silly games in and close to the water in revealing swim wear, the precise character of the relationship isn't clearly mentioned. Pic's handheld, single-camera footage from time to time means unexpected things happen (a minimum of partly) offscreen and precludes shot/reverse shot edits. The slowed down-lower editing rhythm suits the unhurried narrative Giacomo and Stefi go ahead and take pic's first fifteen minutes to simply discover the river. Tempo can also be in tune using the lazy summer time day the protags are going through Comodin appears to claim that what's being proven isn't a big day, but one like many more pre and post it. Narrative stasis is crudely and deliberately undercut through the pic's final reel, by which Giacomo is again in the same riverside location, though now supported by another girl (Barbara Colombo), who's also hard of hearing. A jarring change in perspective throws the preceding occasions right into a different light, recommending losing something innocent and paradisiacal, but Comodin offers couple of clues regarding the way the two uneven parts fit together -- or whether or not they even happened within the order by which they're proven. Documentary-like feel is strengthened through the natural poise from the non-professional leads, with Zulian a photogenic, somewhat enigmatic presence throughout. Unforced lensing on 16mm looked fine in the digital projection caught, while other tech contributions are good pic's small budget. No production designer or costume designer was pointed out within the credits, which, in retro fashion, all unspool at the beginning of the film.Camera (color, 16mm-to-HD), Tristan Bordmann, Comodin editor, Joao Nicolau, Comodin seem, Julien Courroye assistant director, Marie Gehin. Examined at Locarno Film Festival (Filmmakers from the Present), August. 8, 2011. Running time: 79 MIN. Contact Boyd van Hoeij at news@variety.com
Emmy Nominee Loretta Devine on her behalf Emotional Grey's Anatomy Return
James Pickens Junior., Eric Dane and Loretta Devine Loretta Devine is searching toward her go back to Grey's Anatomy this fall, especially because the medical drama is ongoing the heartwrenching narrative that assisted generate the veteran actress her first Emmy nomination for playing the Chief's wife, Adele Webber, last season. As TVGuide first reported, Richard (James Pickens Junior.) will step lower as Chief of Surgery in Season 8, handing the reins to Dr. Owen Search (Kevin McKidd). Devine, who's slated to look in a minumum of one episode this year, thinks Adele will not always be pleased with this news despite the fact that she's spent years attempting to convince Richard to decelerate and quit his position. Grey's Anatomy exclusive: Discover who the brand new Chief of Dallas Sophistication is "Lots of occasions spouses complain about stuff - like my hubby watches an excessive amount of baseball or he's too mounted on this, that, and also the other - but, in ways, you are really glad the guy has passions exactly the same way we all do,Inch Devine informs TVGuide.com. "Adele might say she does not want him to operate but that is all she's ever loved about him. She might be unhappy for him until he changes to his new existence." For the time being, Devine just hopes Adele, who started a volitile manner into dementia last season, will have the ability to remember her husband, not to mention the sacrifices he's designed for her. "You hope that there are some type of recovery on her or that you have a better life-style or condition of durability of existence, where she's obvious on things," she states. "You are wishing that they does not have it." Exclusive: Chandra Wilson to direct another episode of Grey's Anatomy Her newly found disease - suspected to become Alzheimer's disease - was the catalyst for a few of the greatest changes striking Dallas Sophistication because it merged with Whim West. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) compromised her very own career by tampering together with her and Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) medical trial, and as a result, individuals ethical bad behavior forced Richard to resign as Chief. It's bittersweet that Meredith has risked her project for Adele, because it was her very own family that when triggered the Chief's wife a lot discomfort. Meredith's now-deceased mother, who also experienced from Alzheimer's disease, had transported on the decades-lengthy affair with Richard while working at Dallas Sophistication in older days. Devine credits Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes and her "tremendous writing" for that story coming full-circle. "They pre-plan everything now so through the finish, everything just kind of matches up within an incredible way. The scene where I confront Meredith and i believe she's her mother, where she needs to tell her, 'No, I am not my mother,' it is simply incredible writing," Devine recalls. Grey's Anatomy: Shonda Rhimes talks Mer-Der's struggle, Cristina's pregnancy That which was more exciting for Devine was playing the degeneration of the once-strong female into somebody that was to forget things and vulnerable to accidents - landing her within the ER more often than once without obvious recollection of the items happened, putting her in defense mode. "The entire proven fact that the smoothness was totally in denial made absolute sense," she states. "I believe she is at denial up to the finish, and that is what goes on lots of occasions with those who are coping with the condition.Inch Take a look at an initial consider the condition of Dallas Sophistication within the wake of Meredith's transgression: Grey's Anatomy returns Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9/8c on ABC.

Your Government Recap: Eviction 5
"It is the fight of year,Inch Your Government host Julie Chen guaranteed towards the top of the hour. Even though point about this episode stored the intensity at an amount worth that comment, the finish result would be a maddening anticlimax. Sure, the overall game continues to be transformed, but of all of the possible final results, the main one we are playing is the one which interests me least. So, who had been kicked out? And who did she or he fight to earn another chance in the $500,000 grand prize? Let us discover. However: Props towards the Chenbot, whose outfit are only able to be referred to as Miami Vice chic, to make fun of Lawon such as the relaxation people. She begins the show allowing us realize that, despite Lawon's lunatic ravings, he'll not re-go into the house with superpowers should he be kicked out and win another chance. Seriously, how did he ever convince themself which was the situation? After Kalia's "shocking" nomination of Lawon, a home is in a condition of disbelief. Rachel can't believe how lucky she's and Shaun thinks Kalia is either as much as something way wiser than he is able to imagine or she's just stupid. (His cash is on stupid.) Lawon, however, loves what went lower and states he "made the boldest move anybody might make within the Your Government house." When did "bold" be a synonym for "idiotic"?Something does not smell to Shelly. (And also you know she has been around enough animal carcasses to understand!) When Lawon, in her Razzie-worthy performance of anger, states "I will not have volunteered," Shelly starts to visualize he's done that. She also deduces he changes the way in which he talks when he's laying and it has really a "bad boy attitude." She will get much more suspicious when Lawon starts stating that he'll return in, which baffles Shelly because so far as she knows, Rachel continues to be that concentrate on. "That's wackadoodle!" Shelly states. Then she marches upstairs, where Kalia verifies that Lawon volunteered to visit home. She informs Shaun and Jordan plus they all commiserate about how exactly stupid the entire turn of occasions is.Regardless of the turn of occasions, Rachel really wants to make certain Kalia and Daniele are likely to take her suggested deal. To her surprise, they just don't request her for much. They just accept election Lawon by helping cover their the implication that they owes them. One condition: She can't tell the home concerning the deal. What exactly does Rachel do? She informs Shaun and Jordan, and most importantly, Shelly.Although Shelly clearly has some brains, she demonstrated how a lizard she's now. The moment Rachel informs her of Kalia and Daniele's deal, Shelly allows it slip to Daniele. She informs Kalia and each of them are livid. Daniele states she gets like between Lawon and Rachel, she's inside a nuthouse. Kalia states she would like to "smack Rachel within the jaw." Could that signal the finish for Rachel in the end of Lawon's self-compromising?Hold that thought because...Ragan has returned! To my shock and horror, Rachel and Ragan, once heated opponents within the Your Government house, have really become BFFs outdoors from it. They exercise together and venture out consuming (because that's Rachel's favorite pastime, Ragan states.) He rambles on about her emotional game play and invents the term "cry-bernating" to explain her a reaction to playing the overall game without Brendon the very first time ever. Hey, BB12 player Matt can there be too, but who cares? Ultimately, Ragan states Rachel is much like the killer inside a horror movie: you are able to kill her 100 various ways, but she'll always appear for just one last scare...So, Rachel or Lawon? Despite the fact that Rachel blabbed against Kalia's wishes, the home still all votes to evict Lawon. Obviously they are doing! He volunteered to visit, and it is what he warrants. I can not know if he's shocked it would be a unanimous election, or if he's just dumb. He type of includes a blank look before he finally hugs everybody and prepares for his goodbyes. But wait! The twist! How could we forget? Lawon starts to grin such as the Cheshire Cat when Julie starts to inform Lawon he has an opportunity to remain in the overall game. (His plan's uniting! Superpowers! Rainbows!) That smile fades a little when he discovers he needs to fight it against either Keith, Cassi, Dominic or Brendon. I'm again confused by Lawon's facial expressions, however i think that certain was, "Oh, s---!" Rachel's shocked O-face however? Priceless. And here's where everything chimes the rails. America made the decision to provide an opportunity at coming back to... Brendon?! For the complaints about Rachel and Brendon I just read every day, I've found that highly strange. Anybody wish to begin a "producers rigging the overall game" conspiracy theory. Since it is an actual challenge, obviously Brendon wins. (On the other hand, against Lawon, a mental challenge wouldn't happen to be way too hard either.)So, Brendon is in the home, and that i don't have any trouble reading through Lawon's last facial expression: It screams: "How could this happen? I'm this kind of idiot!" I honestly type of feel just a little harmful to him, but what did he really expect. Whenever you constitute rules to the overall game in your mind, you need to be ready to be disappointed. Also: Kalia and Daniele should be trembling within their boots at the moment.Nevertheless, no matter how America chosen (and, again, I'm really suspicious), this result's terrible. Not simply will the Brendon-Rachel cleaning soap opera saga continue, it totally makes the overall game a lot more foreseeable. I needed Cassi in the future in, due to the fact she does not have numerous alliances in the home and would shake some misconception. As I am rooting for Shaun and Jordan and Brendon helps that team get further, I'd rather not begin to see the veterans rule the home using their restored energy. As well as, Brenchel sucks. Thanks, America! So, have you been glad to determine Lawon go? Pleased to see Brendon back? Who would you like to win Mind of Household? Who do you consider will win everything? Election within our poll and share all of your ideas within the comments below. show less
HBO Reorganizes Drama Department, Brings In Film Executive Michael Ellenberg As SVP
EXCLUSIVE: Feature executive Michael Ellenberg has joined HBO as SVP, HBO Entertainment. He will run the pay cable network's drama department, reporting to HBO Entertainment president Sue Naegle and working closely with Gina Balian, also a newly minted SVP, HBO Entertainment. Balian, who has been at HBO for 10 years, is one of several drama executives who have recently been promoted, along with Francesca Orsi and David Levine, both of them upped to VP. The reorganization of HBO's drama department was precipitated by the recent departure of VP Jocelyn Diaz. But instead of going for a direct replacement, HBO brass opted to bring in somebody senior to lead the drama department. As for going with a film vs. network executive, I hear the decision stemmed from HBO's positioning as being in between TV and film and the need to have someone on board who knows well the players in the feature world as so many filmmakers are doing series for HBO these days, including Boardwalk Empire's Martin Scorsese, Luck's Michael Mann and Game of Thrones' David Benioff. Additionally, HBO's development model is closer to features than to the traditional broadcast cycle. Ellenberg spent the last four years at Ridley and Tony Scott's Scott Free Prods as SVP. He just finished production of the Ridley Scott-directed Prometheus. He also worked on the company's films Robin Hood and Cyrus, as well as such projects in development as The Passage with director Matt Reeves, Child 44 written by Richard Price, Shadow Divers with director Robert Schwentke, Red Riding and Forever War. Before Scott Free, Ellenberg spent three years at Scott Rudin Prods in Los Angeles as VP. Coincidentally, Rudin is a major series player at HBO where he has a deal and several projects in the works, including Aaron Sorkin's drama pilot More As This Story Develops. Drama is having a resurgence at HBO, with both of the network's new series, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones, landing best drama Emmy nominations.
